About The Blog

The Story

"I'm a feminist that pole dances and supports sex workers"

Does that question confuse you? Then this blog is for you.

Bruises, tears, pain, sweat, achievement, community, frustrations, honesty, growth, laughter, friendship, health, fitness, compassion, patience, courage, trust, passion, power, control - are some of the words I think of when I think of pole.

Hi, you can call me Axiom. I was never an athlete nor a dancer. Growing up, I tried to be, but with no natural talent and continued cuts from teams, I gave up. At age 34 I discovered pole dancing and fell in love. 7 years later, despite STILL being less than adequate, I continue to put in hours a week of training in strength, flexibility, choreo, flow, tricks, styles of dance, and freestyle. Why do I do this? What is pole dance? How am I feminist and a pole dancer? Why should sex workers be supported? This blog will answer these questions and be about the two sides of pole, the erotic and the fitness sides and how they may or may not merge. It will be about the reasons people pole dance and challenge perceptions of the dancers and pole dance itself.

But before you start your journey with me, I ask that you challenge yourself. I ask that your pause all of your ideas of pole dance and sex work and approach these blogs with a curious 'beginner's mind'. Leave your comfort zone of established thoughts and ideas and grow.

“Outside your comfort zone is the only place worth living.” – Karina Bliss

Thank you,

Axiom
